BLOCK 1

As we begin Block 3 of production of the Sunray saga it has given us time to briefly reflect on the first block which seems like something of a decade ago. It happened and we survived, just. Shaking out and working together for the first time as a creative team it seemed surreal that a project that has been in development for so long, was here! was real!

From an idea that started as 50 post it notes on a front room wall to now actual physical sets, Actors, Crew, Equipment, Catering, Make Up Artists and angry Assistant Directors cracking the whip. After month’s of location recce’s, casting zoom chats and a table read that brought us together as a family for the first time; Rose lifted the clapper of the digi-slate, “rolling speed, rolling camera and action”

Making mistakes was natural, lessons were learnt and on reflection they are the building blocks, the foundation that enable us to feel more prepared for Block 3 (The Real Juicy Stuff). Tonight we wrapped on one of the most rewarding cinematography experiences of my life, the team working as one, with one goal, with one purpose. The result’s were exactly as we had imagined when designing and writing the scene; your creative vision, without sacrifice and without compromise; its euphoric and is best shared. This was only learnt from establishing that foundation of every mistake made to date.

I have no doubt that we will make more mistakes, meet more obstacles and be pushed to our utter limits. You can plan and then plan some more but I am always humbly reminded that no plan ever survives the first contact but surround yourself with great people and you might just make it through.
